Spam Jam Festival in Waikiki!
Each year, Hawaii is fully scheduled with various festivals. In particular, Spam Jam Festival takes place every April on Kalakaua Avenue of Waikiki and perhaps the most popular as Hawaii is number one in spam consumption in the world. On average, there are about 30,000 attendees of locals and tourists to Spam Jam. 2019 Spam Jam was no exception as it attracted a large crowd. Various vendors display and sell items and food related to Spam.
17th ANNUAL WAIKIKI SPAM JAM® FESTIVAL, Honolulu, Hawaii, April 23, 2019 – An estimated crowd of around 30,000 residents and visitors joined in the celebration of one of the state’s most beloved foods. The popular event featured live musical entertainment along with street shopping for a variety of local products and SPAM® branded merchandise. One of the main attractions in this event was the opportunity to dine on SPAM® dishes.
Hawaii’s love for Spam!
Spam Musubi is one of the most popular and known food in Hawaii. Hawaii takes Spam to another level and make Loco Moco, dumplings, fried rice and hamburgers with it. This year’s Spam Jam was great as usual. It marked the 17th annual Waikiki SPAM JAM® on April 27th from 4PM to 10PM in Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue. The festival gets better each year and this year was no exception. People had the pleasure of eating and seeing various dishes made with Spam. Many creative crafts were on display for sale as well, and live music by local performers made it more exciting.
스팸 제품은 1937년에 소개된 이후 다양한 방식으로 발전되어 이제는 하와이 음식문화에서 빠질 수 없는 필수품이 되었다. 특히 올해 행사에는 2018년 그레이트 아메리칸 스팸 챔피온쉽의 그랜드 프라이즈 우승 레시피를 맛볼 수 있는 행사도 마련되었는데 수상을 한 미네소타주 와콘의 에이프릴 웨인레히가 30여 가지의 응모된 요리법 중에서 내셔날 콘테스트에서 우승한 요리법인 스팸 베이크 프렌치 토스트를 선보인다. 간단하지만 스팸과 하와이안 스위트 브레드를 이용한 특색 있는 아침식사로 만들어진다. 올해는 알래스카 항공과 하와이 L & L 하와이안 레스토랑에서 기획한 무수비 만들기 대회가 열리기도 했다

이 스팸행사에는 와이키키 지역 내에 위치한 많은 레스토랑들에서 스팸을 이용한 다양하고 창의적인 스팸 메뉴들을 만들어 전시한다. 에그 앤 띵스의 스팸 크렙 케익, 스트립스테이크 레스토랑의 스팸 나초스 로코스, 노이타이의 스팸 파인애플 프라이라이스, 서울정의 스팸 김치 프라이라이스, 알로하 테이블의 스팸 프라이 사이민과 스팸카레, 마할로아 버거의 스팸 파인애플 테리버거 등 스팸이라고는 믿어지지 않는 메뉴들도 있어 눈길을 끈다.
