Exceptionally Great

TIM HO WAN : The World’s Most Inexpensive Awarded Dim Sum Restaurant. Tim Ho Wan Dim Sum Restaurant presents enticing menus that have won the plaudits of food critics and foodies around the world.

Now you don’t have to go all the way to Hong Kong for this world-renowned chain, Tim Ho Wan. Established in 2009 in Hong Kong, Tim Ho Wan has expanded to other Asian countries and now the Western. You can experience the taste of Hong Kong right here in the heart of Waikiki. For foodie lovers, this is one of a must-try restaurants when visiting Hawaii.  Chef Mak Kwai Pui, three-star Micheln award winner, and his partner Chef Leung Fai Keung opened the first Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong to deliver inexpensive, authentic taste of dim sum. Tim Ho Wan Waikiki debuted in April of 2018 on the third floor of Royal Hawaiian Center. Tim Ho Wan has established as global chain in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines, Macao, Thailand, Japan, United States, and Australia. In the US, Tim Ho Wan restaurant is in New York City, Irvine and Last Vegas and now in Hawaii.

Tim Ho Wan in Royal Hawaiian Center is rather small compared to other Tim Ho Wan restaurants outside of Hawii. The restaurant is modern, bright and not too extravagant. You can sit inside the restaurant or outside for dine-in. The outside seating is not an actual outdoor space.  The restaurant does not take reservation, so if you want to avoid wait, visit during non-rush hours and for lunch.

There are no dim sum carts like you would expect at many dim sum restaurants. You just order plates of your choice off the menu. The service at Tim Ho Wan is great and fast. As expected, dim sum is exceptional and another popular item is Tim Ho Wan’s signature BBQ Pork Buns.  Other popular items include Sui Mai, Steamed Egg Cake, How Gow, and Turnip Cakes. Try out a dessert as well after your meal.  All Tim Ho Wan restaurants maintain same values and strive to deliver authentic taste without external influence, so the menus are generally the same across all the restaurants. Some branches often do have extra menu items added that characterize the location it’s in. For example, Waikiki’s Tim Ho Wan has a dish made of fish and pineapple.  Lobster is another popular item at Tim Ho Wan as the demand is high and budget-friendly. The lobsters are prepared daily, so they run out quick!

Tim Ho Wan Waikiki is a family-friendly restaurant, so it might not be an ideal spot for romantic and fancy dinner dates, but is a great place to try out authentic Hong Kong food. Menu is also family-friendly and people of all ages can find something they like.

Tim Ho Wan founders, Leung Fai Keung and Mak Kwai Pui, a former chef at a Michelin Star restaurant at Hong Kong’s Four Seasons, opened the first Tim Ho Wan in a tiny space. After a year of operation, Tim Ho Wan gained recognition and became a Michelin Star restaurant.
